U.S. Wants Panel To Hear China Import IP Spat

Law360 (October 11, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. is stepping up the grievance it aired with the World Trade Organization over China's published materials import restrictions, which it says hamper proper intellectual property law enforcement, and is asking for a dispute settlement panel.

According to U.S. complaints, the barriers China places on the importation and internal distribution of American movies, books and music are unfair, particularly to U.S. companies in China that want to buy them, and create a fertile market for pirated versions of the materials within China.
