Health Insurance Rate Hikes Will Go On Calif. Ballot In 2014

Law360, New York (August 27, 2012, 7:09 PM EDT) -- A ballot initiative that would require California health insurance companies to get state regulators' approval before hiking rates has gained enough voter signatures to qualify for the 2014 ballot, the California secretary of state said Thursday.

County officials certified Consumer Watchdog's submission of more than 500,000 voter signatures in support of The Insurance Rate Public Justification and Accountability Act, which would also force health insurers to provide refunds to consumers for excessive rates charged as of Nov. 7, 2012.
