Energy Firm Sues Paper For Libel Over CWA Guilty Plea Story

Law360, New York (August 27, 2012, 6:01 PM EDT) -- A West Virginia newspaper is facing libel allegations from Murray Energy Corp. in a suit removed to Ohio federal court Monday over an Internet blog post that describes a company executive as a criminal following a subsidiary's guilty plea to Clean Water Act violations.

The Charleston Gazette deliberately republished “a concoction of lies” by posting the article, according to the complaint, which originally was filed in Ohio state court last month. The damages caused by the article make the action more than just a typical libel...
