US Clears Path For Fracking In Ohio National Forest

Law360, New York (August 28, 2012, 6:22 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Forest Service on Monday cleared the way for natural gas drilling that uses hydraulic fracturing in an Ohio national forest, rebuffing environmentalists who said study of energy exploration in the area was inadequate because it didn’t specifically examine fracking.

The service’s report, which applies to the Wayne National Forest in southeastern Ohio, found that conventional drilling is happening more slowly than envisioned in its earlier environmental study, offsetting the more intense impacts of fracking.
