Calif. Self-Insurance Restriction Bill Hits Delay

Law360, Washington (August 29, 2012, 7:09 PM EDT) -- A California bill to restrict the sale of stop-loss insurance to small businesses has been delayed until as late as 2013 amid opposition from groups including the Self-Insurance Institute of America Inc., the California Department of Insurance confirmed Wednesday.

The bill, S.B. 1431, would have limited the sale of stop-loss insurance policies for small businesses with fewer than 50 employees, but action on the bill will be postponed until later this year or to 2013 because of a lack of support in the state Assembly, SIIA...
