US Sanctioned For Trashing CHS Medicaid Fraud Docs

Law360, New York (September 4, 2012, 8:14 PM EDT) -- A New Mexico magistrate judge on Friday sanctioned the federal government for destroying evidence that may have helped hospital chain Community Health Systems Inc. defend itself against a whistleblower's claims of Medicaid fraud.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Alan C. Torgerson granted a Dec. 9 motion for sanctions by CHS. The Tennessee-based company was hit with a suit in 2005 by whistleblower Robert C.
