Linux OS Distributors Hit With Patent Lawsuit

Law360 (October 15, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Two patent-holding companies have taken aim at Linux providers Red Hat and Novell Inc. in a federal court, alleging that the open-source operating system infringed on patents related to having multiple windows on a screen.

The suit, filed on Oct. 9 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, alleges Red Hat and Novell infringed on three patents related to using an interface to display icons and separate windows on a computer screen.
