Smith & Nephew Wins $4M In Surgical Device Patent Suit

Law360, New York (September 6, 2012, 1:43 PM EDT) -- A Massachusetts federal jury on Tuesday handed a win to Smith & Nephew Inc., awarding the medical device maker $4 million in damages against rival Hologic Inc. over violations of patents covering a surgical cutting system.

A jury awarded Smith & Nephew $4 million in damages for lost profits in a suit claiming Hologic’s MyoSure Tissue Removal Device — a device used to remove fibroids without cutting into the uterus — infringed two patents owned by Smith & Nephew.
