Mercedes Off Hook After Tired Driver Patent Ruled Invalid

Law360, New York (September 7, 2012, 4:28 PM EDT) -- A New Jersey federal judge on Wednesday granted Mercedes-Benz USA LLC summary judgment in a suit alleging it infringed a patent for technology that detects sleepiness in vehicle drivers or machine operators.

In a published opinion in favor of Mercedes-Benz and its manufacturer Daimler AG, U.S. District Judge Faith S. Hochberg effectively closed the lawsuit brought by Ibormeith IP LLC claiming the luxury car maker’s "Attention Assist” drowsiness detection system infringed Ibormeith’s patent.
