Scotts Miracle-Gro To Pay Record $12.5M Over Pesticides

Law360, Chicago (September 7, 2012, 7:18 PM EDT) -- Scotts Miracle-Gro Co. will shell out a record-breaking $12.5 million in criminal fines and civil penalties after pleading guilty to violating federal pesticide law and settling related civil allegations with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Justice said Friday.

Scotts, which makes lawn and garden pesticides for businesses and consumers, was sentenced in Ohio federal court to pay a $4 million fine and contribute $500,000 to bird habitat protection groups for the 11 criminal violations of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act...
