Latham & Watkins Attorney Disqualified In KPMG Trial

Law360, New York (October 18, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge on Thursday delayed the criminal trial of three former KPMG International executives accused of creating illegal tax shelters after he disqualified an attorney representing one of the executives due to conflict of interest concerns.

Following a closed hearing, U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan ruled that Steven Bauer of Latham & Watkins LLP could no longer serve as counsel for former KPMG senior tax manager John Larson. Kaplan indefinitely postponed the trial, which was supposed to start on Oct. 23, and discharged the jury,...
