Google Absent As Media Cos Unveil Copyright Guards

Law360, New York (October 19, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Nine leading Internet and media companies have banded together to set guidelines for protecting intellectual property while allowing user-generated content to continue flourishing, but giants Google Inc. and YouTube were noticeably absent from the group.

The nine companies on Thursday announced that they will implement filtering technology that will eliminate copyrighted material on user-generated content and block infringing uploads before they become available to the public.

The group includes CBS Corp., Fox Entertainment Group, Microsoft Corp., MySpace, Viacom Inc., NBC Universal and The Walt Disney Co....
