Doctor Convicted On False Fen-Phen Injury Claims

Law360, New York (September 19, 2012, 4:49 PM EDT) -- A Pennsylvania jury convicted a doctor on Friday of falsely certifying that patients suffered heart damage so they could collect money from a massive Wyeth Pharmaceuticals Inc. class action settlement fund set up to compensate users of fen-phen diet drugs.

Dr. Abdur Razzak Tai, a 79-year-old Florida resident, was found guilty of six counts of mail fraud and seven counts of wire fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Each count carries a maximum sentence of 20 years. U.S. District...
