EU's Almunia Calls For End To Smartphone IP War

Law360, New York (September 20, 2012, 3:22 PM EDT) -- European Union antitrust chief Joaquin Almunia on Thursday warned leading technology companies against abusing their mobile device patents, urging manufacturers to find a way to settle the apparently "never-ending" global litigation war over smartphone patents.

The European Commission will clarify what it considers to be fair, reasonable and nondiscriminatory licensing terms for companies to seek for patents that have been incorporated into an industry standard, in order to address the "great need for guidance," but the "industry needs to do its homework," Competition Commissioner Almunia said...
