NJ Transit Pays $5.8M To Settle Police Officers' Bias Suit

Law360, New York (September 25, 2012, 4:52 PM EDT) -- New Jersey Transit has agreed to spend $5.8 million to settle a lawsuit brought by 10 minority police officers who claimed they were subject to a pattern of harassment and discrimination at the public transportation corporation, the plaintiffs' attorneys announced Monday.

The settlement puts an end to a suit in which 10 plaintiffs — nine African-American transit officers and one Hispanic officer — claimed they faced unfair discipline, unfounded internal affairs investigations and discriminatory work assignments and evaluations, according to court documents.
