Wi-LAN Picks Up 150 Wireless Patents In $19M Deal

Law360, New York (October 1, 2012, 9:21 PM EDT) -- Canadian technology licensing company Wi-LAN Inc. has acquired 150 patents covering 4G mobile device technology from Israeli wireless broadband product maker Alvarion Ltd. in a deal valued at $19 million, the buyer said Monday.

Wi-LAN has filed several suits in recent months against the makers of wireless handsets, including Apple Inc. and Research in Motion Ltd. The company said in a statement that it believed Alvarion's patents had "broad applicability to 4G infrastructure and handsets."
