Texas Pipeline Group Rips New Barnett Shale Setback Regs

Law360, Dallas (October 2, 2012, 4:31 PM EDT) -- The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality on Friday published new regulations for the Barnett Shale that incorporate local requirements for longer distances between gas wells and homes, a move opposed by the Texas Pipeline Association.

The rule changes, slated for adoption Oct. 17, will also shrink the designated Barnett Shale region, cutting eight of its 23 counties because they are less populated and drilling activity there isn't concentrated in urban areas.
