Vendors Pool RFID Patents, Launch Licensing Consortium

Law360 (August 9, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Nearly 20 technology companies have joined forces to pool their patents into a licensing consortium designed to promote an emerging wireless tracking technology that could one day replace bar codes on packaged goods.

The move could help clear up confusion about intellectual property rights in the radio frequency identification industry, a problem that has threatened to thwart development and adoption of the promising technology.
