Kirkland Helps Sumitomo Gain Stake In $2B Solar Park

Law360, New York (October 2, 2012, 5:01 PM EDT) -- Sumitomo Corp. has made its first investment in a U.S. solar project, taking a 25 percent equity stake in California's $2.3 billion Desert Sunlight Solar Farm from co-owners GE Energy Financial Services and NextEra Energy Inc., the Japanese trading house announced Tuesday.

Sumitomo Corp. of America's stake will come out of GE's share of the project, which is currently under construction in the California desert, east of Palm Springs. With an anticipated generating capacity of 550 megawatts, Desert Sun represents the biggest solar photovoltaic facility approved...
