HP, Gateway Cheer Patent Ruling At ITC

Law360 (August 9, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Both Hewlett-Packard and Gateway declared partial victory in their patent dispute at the International Trade Commission over computer technology patents.

An administrative law judge with the ITC ruled in favor of California-based HP, albeit on a much-watered-down version of the original complaint.

HP sued rival Gateway last May in a dispute over patents licensed by eMachines, which Gateway acquired in January 2004 for $266 million. Six weeks later, Gatway countersued for infringement of five of its patents.
