Panel Sends Biomet Hip Implant MDL To Indiana

Law360, New York (October 3, 2012, 4:04 PM EDT) -- A federal judicial panel decided Tuesday to move the suits against Biomet Inc. over its allegedly defective metal-on-metal hip implants into multidistrict litigation in Indiana, a venue for which neither the company nor several factions of plaintiffs petitioned.

The U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation sent cases over Biomet's M2a Magnum implants to the Northern District of Indiana to be handled by Judge Robert L. Miller Jr., who himself served on the panel from 2003 to 2010. Biomet, which is based in Indiana, opposed centralization of...
