Leveraging Buying Power Could Save Agencies Billions: GAO

Law360, New York (October 4, 2012, 9:40 PM EDT) -- Federal agencies achieved only limited savings when using strategic sourcing contracts, passing up the chance to save billions more by leveraging the government's buying power, according to a Thursday report by the U.S. Government Accountability Office.

In particular, the U.S. departments of Defense, Energy, Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs could make better use of strategic sourcing, an approach that favors fewer large contracts in place of numerous individual procurements, the report found.
