Enviro Groups Hit Midwest Generation Over Coal Ash Dumping

Law360, New York (October 4, 2012, 8:12 PM EDT) -- A coalition of environmental organizations filed a complaint on Wednesday with the Illinois Pollution Control Board against Midwest Generation LLC, citing violations of Illinois groundwater standards at four Midwest generating stations related to pollution from coal ash ponds.

The plaintiffs, which include the Sierra Club and the Environmental Integrity Project, claim that hazardous pollutants such as arsenic, boron, chloride, iron, lead, mercury and selenium have been leaching into the groundwater from coal ash disposal ponds at the Edison Mission Energy Inc. subsidiary's generating stations in violation...
