USPTO Rejects iPod Patent

Law360, New York (August 10, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has rejected Apple Computer’s application for a patent for the scrollwheel interface of the popular iPod digital music player, citing an existing patent by a Microsoft researcher.

The patent for the interface is just one of several covering the iPod and likely won’t hurt sales of the device, which has already surpassed 21 million units.
