Rite Aid Settles False Ad Suit Over Customer Rewards

Law360, New York (October 11, 2012, 5:50 PM EDT) -- A California judge on Wednesday ordered Rite Aid Corp. to pay $800,000 in penalties for allegedly misleading customers about the benefits of its customer rewards programs and gift cards, settling a consumer protection suit waged by the San Diego City Attorney's Office.

Rite Aid and its subsidiary Thrifty PayLess Inc. must clearly state when its +UP Rewards and Wellness Card holders are entitled to receive coupons under the programs, and must also allow certain Rite Aid gift card recipients to redeem their cards for cash, California...
