Nursing Homes Call SEIU 'Lawless' In Racketeering Suit

Law360, New York (October 11, 2012, 4:10 PM EDT) -- Decrying “economic terrorism” aimed at crippling their operations, a pair of affiliated nursing home companies Wednesday filed a racketeering complaint in New Jersey federal court against Service Employees International Union chapters they accuse of endangering patients and committing extortion.

CareOne Management LLC and HealthBridge Management LLC, which oversee more than 50 long-term care centers in New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts, say two branches of the SEIU are beset by crushing pension obligations and have sought millions of dollars from the companies to lighten the load....
