Ex-NY Senate Majority Leader Espada Cops To Tax Fraud

Law360, New York (October 12, 2012, 8:22 PM EDT) -- Onetime New York state Senate majority leader Pedro Espada Jr. pled guilty to tax fraud Friday, after prosecutors accused him of concealing money he took from his former network of nonprofit health clinics serving poor Bronx residents.

Espada, 58, admitted to filing a false and fraudulent tax return before U.S. District Judge Frederic Block, according to prosecutors. Espada’s son and fellow defendant, Pedro Gautier Espada, 39, also pled guilty Friday to stealing federal funding from the Bronx health clinics and failing to file a tax return....
