$205M Medicare Fraud Gets Health Care Manager 9 Years

Law360, New York (October 12, 2012, 1:47 PM EDT) -- A Florida federal judge on Thursday sentenced a former mental health care company manager to 108 months in prison for her role in a $205 million Medicare fraud scheme involving kickbacks for referrals of mentally ill and substance abuse patients.

U.S. District Judge Patricia A. Seitz also ordered Vanja Abreu to pay nearly $73 million in restitution, jointly and severally with a number of her co-defendants, after her conviction in June on one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud. The judge’s order came just...
