Texas County Hit With Voter Bias Suit Over Minority Purge

Law360, Houston (October 12, 2012, 3:42 PM EDT) -- The League of United Latin American Citizens on Thursday launched a suit in Texas federal court alleging that a Texas county is systematically preventing qualified African-American and Latino citizens from registering to vote in violation of federal law.

LULAC claims Harris County and its voting registrar Don Sumners are discriminating against minorities by denying their voter registration applications based on requirements adopted by the county that contravene the federal Voting Rights Act.
