Feds, Transocean Challenge BP Spill Witnesses' Silence

Law360, New York (October 12, 2012, 7:18 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Justice and Transocean Ltd. on Friday asked a federal judge to draw adverse inferences from BP PLC workers' refusal to testify about conditions at the Macondo well in multidistrict litigation over the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

In depositions last summer, two BP drilling engineers and a site leader invoked the Fifth Amendment when called on to testify about pressure tests and the safety of the cement casing at the well, which blew out in April 2010 and triggered the disaster.
