DOJ Enviroment Enforcement Reaching Record Highs

Law360, New York (October 26, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Prosecutions of environmental criminal cases were at near-record highs for 2006 and, with the millions in fines levied against BP PLC last week, have continued to soar in 2007, the Department of Justice's Environment and Natural Resources Division revealed.

In a fact sheet released on Thursday, the ENRD said that it had imposed 67.3 years of jail terms on individuals and $70.5 million in criminal penalties, restitution and funding for conditions of probation in 2006.
