Google Antitrust Action Could Cost FTC Power, Dem Warns

Law360, New York (October 15, 2012, 6:08 PM EDT) -- Following media reports that the Federal Trade Commission was preparing an antitrust case against Google Inc., Democratic Rep. Jared Polis sent a letter, released Monday, warning the regulator that such action could lead Congress to revoke some of the agency's powers.

The Colorado congressman — founder of several Web startups and an outspoken critic of Internet regulation — said the online market was a “hypercompetitive environment” and that the thought of an antitrust suit “defies all logic,” according to his Oct. 9 letter to FTC Chairman...
