Texas Court Dumps $12M Email 'Contract' Award In Oil Row

Law360, Houston (October 16, 2012, 9:01 PM EDT) -- A Texas appeals court on Tuesday tossed a $12 million jury verdict that had been awarded to Carrizo Oil & Gas Inc., finding that a joint operating agreement it had with another oilfield producer expired before well development began and was not extended.

In reversing the judgment, the Fourteenth Court of Appeals held that there was insufficient evidence to establish that an alleged second agreement was entered into through a series of emails between Carrizo and 2001 Trinity Fund LLC to alter and extend the lapsed...
