Calif. Unions To Bring Free Speech Fight If Prop 32 Passes

Law360, San Diego (October 22, 2012, 11:15 PM EDT) -- Proposition 32 aims to restrict how labor unions raise money for California political activities, and if state voters approve the measure on Nov. 6, it would set up legal challenges over whether the initiative infringes unions’ First Amendment rights, experts said Monday.

The measure would bar unions and corporations from using payroll-deducted funds for political purposes and from giving direct contributions to candidates or their campaign committees.
