NY Top Court Rejects Challenge To Same-Sex Marriage Law

Law360, New York (October 23, 2012, 7:28 PM EDT) -- New York's highest court on Tuesday declined to hear a religious group's challenge to the state's same-sex marriage law, leaving the Empire State's 2011 Marriage Equality Act to stand in a decision that won immediate praise from Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms, a nonprofit group of pastors based near Rochester that is concerned about "religious liberties and moral values," wanted the New York Court of Appeals to hear its contention that closed-door negotiations between Cuomo, a Democrat, and state Senate Republicans in Albany...
