CFTC Floats New Safeguards For Futures, Derivatives Funds

Law360, New York (October 23, 2012, 5:22 PM EDT) -- The Commodity Futures Trading Commission on Monday greenlighted for public comment proposed new regulations and amendments to existing rules, with the goal of enhancing protections for customers and customer funds held by futures commission merchants and derivatives-clearing organizations.

The CFTC said the proposed regulations come as a result of the commission’s efforts — including two public roundtables hosted by its staff — to coordinate and confer with the futures sector on the issue of upgrading customer safeguards surrounding the holding of money, securities and other property...
