Aegean-Olympic Air Deal May See Clearer Skies This Time

Law360, New York (October 25, 2012, 8:52 PM EDT) -- Aegean Airlines' bid to buy struggling rival Olympic Air SA less than two years after the European Commission blocked the Greek carriers from merging might fare better under competition scrutiny this time, experts said Thursday, now that the airlines' financial fortunes are in decline and a new market player has emerged.

Not only is the current €72 million ($93 million) deal smaller than the proposed merger the EC rejected in 2011, but the situation surrounding the tie-up has changed as well.
