Louisiana Wants Separate Trial On $1B In Deepwater Claims

Law360, New York (October 25, 2012, 7:01 PM EDT) -- Louisiana on Thursday asked the federal judge handling multidistrict litigation over the Deepwater Horizon oil spill to hold a separate trial on the state’s $1 billion in economic loss claims against BP PLC.

Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell said in court documents that the state was entitled to a jury trial focusing on alleged losses related to income and franchise tax, mineral royalties and severance tax, sale tax, and oil and gas revenues.
