Customs Officer Accused Of Helping Importers Skirt Duties

Law360, New York (October 25, 2012, 2:34 PM EDT) -- Federal authorities on Thursday arrested a California-based U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer accused of helping importers, and his ex-wife, smuggle clothing manufactured in China to skirt more than $781,000 in duties and import taxes.

Sam Herbert Allen, 51, of Diamond Bar, Calif., has been charged in a five-count indictment with taking more than $100,000 in bribes and making false statements to agents with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security who were investigating the duty-avoidance scheme.
