NJ Senator Wants Sunoco, Town Probed Over Tax Refund

Law360, New York (October 26, 2012, 8:48 PM EDT) -- New Jersey's Senate president has asked state authorities to investigate whether $13.1 million in property tax refunds from West Deptford Township to Sunoco Inc. breached a new law to aid the cleanup of vacant or underutilized industrial sites, the legislator announced Thursday.

Senate President Steve Sweeney said in a letter to the state attorney general and Department of Environmental Protection that the settlement payment came after the passage of the law, which funnels property tax refunds for totally or partially decommissioned industrial properties to the state...
