Anadarko Win Could Mean Billions In Losses For U.S.

Law360, New York (November 1, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge has ruled that the U.S. Department of the Interior overstepped its authority when it directed Kerr-McGee Oil & Gas Corp. to pay royalties on oil and natural gas from eight deepwater leases in the Gulf of Mexico.

The decision, filed on Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, could cost the U.S. billions of dollars in lost royalties, the DOI and the Government Accountability Office have both said.
