Scruggs Requests Bail Pending 5th Circ. Appeal

Law360, New York (October 30, 2012, 10:08 PM EDT) -- Disgraced ex-attorney Dickie Scruggs asked a Mississippi federal judge Monday to release him from prison while he appeals a second conviction on judicial bribery charges, arguing that without such relief he risks serving time when he should have been released.

Scruggs argued that because his release date under his first sentence is Nov. 6 and the second case against him presents a significant possibility of the Fifth Circuit's granting him habeas corpus on appeal — a likelihood the Mississippi court alluded to in granting his certificate...
