BP Doubts It Will Reach Deepwater Deal Ahead Of Trial

Law360, New York (October 30, 2012, 2:25 PM EDT) -- BP PLC on Tuesday expressed doubt that it could reach a settlement with the federal government in multidistrict litigation over the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill before the trial on claims launched by the U.S. Department of Justice, state and local governments kicks off in February.

In a statement announcing its earnings for the third quarter of 2012, BP reiterated its willingness to settle the claims “on reasonable terms,” but continues to “prepare vigorously,” for trial, scheduled to begin in New Orleans on Feb. 25....
