Court Lets Calif. Board Audit Nonprofit Over Donor Data

Law360, San Diego (October 31, 2012, 11:44 PM EDT) -- A California court cleared the way Wednesday for the Fair Political Practices Commission to audit an Arizona nonprofit to determine the source of an $11 million contribution to a committee fighting the California governor’s tax hike initiative and supporting a measure limiting unions' political spending.

Judge Shelleyanne Chang of the Sacramento County Superior Court affirmed an earlier tentative decision that the commission, under its statutory authority, was permitted to conduct an audit before the Nov. 6 election to find out whether Arizona-based Americans for Responsible Leadership...
