Philly Council OKs Hire-In-City Bill For Contractors

Law360, Philadelphia (November 5, 2012, 6:00 PM EST) -- Under a new law unanimously approved Thursday by the Philadelphia City Council, contractors and businesses subsidized by the city will be required to give first consideration to local job seekers registered with the city's workforce development program.

The so-called First Source Jobs Policy requires contractors doing more than $25,000 worth of work for the city, or businesses subsidized by more than $25,000 in city funds, to consider job applicants registered through Philadelphia Works Inc., a workforce development program launched by Mayor Michael Nutter in June 2011....
