NY Alters Insurance Rules As Region Awaits 2nd Storm

Law360, New York (November 6, 2012, 1:15 PM EST) -- New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Monday that the state is adjusting insurance rules in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, instructing insurers to accept photo documentation of losses so New Yorkers can discard debris before a second storm hits the region Wednesday.

At Cuomo’s direction, Financial Services Superintendent Benjamin M. Lawsky has instructed insurers to waive on-site inspections typically required before a claim can be processed and accept photographs or videos of losses, and in addition has imposed a 30-day moratorium on the cancellation or termination...
