Oregon Voters Approve Ban On Real-Estate Transfer Taxes

Law360, New York (November 7, 2012, 4:17 PM EST) -- Oregon voters on Tuesday approved a ballot measure to ban new taxes and fees on real estate transfers by cementing the ban in the state constitution.

Oregon’s Measure 79 prohibits the state Legislature from imposing new transfer taxes, fees or assessments on real estate. Oregon already prohibits city and local governments from imposing real estate transfer taxes and fees with a few exceptions, but proponents fought to secure a statewide ban.
