Jurors Told Evidence Stacked Against Ex-Mayer Brown Atty

Law360, New York (November 7, 2012, 9:14 PM EST) -- Prosecutors on Wednesday told jurors the evidence is “overwhelming” that former Mayer Brown LLP partner Joseph P. Collins helped hide a $1 billion accounting fraud that sunk brokerage Refco Inc., wrapping up their case.

Witness testimony, documents and Collins' own notes show that Collins was in on a scheme to use sham loans between Refco and its holding companies to keep mounting losses from the public, Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Alexander Levy told jurors in closing arguments in Manhattan.
