Tsakos Paid Kickbacks For $100M In Shipping Work, Suit Says

Law360, Houston (November 7, 2012, 8:05 PM EST) -- A unit of LyondellBasell Industries on Wednesday launched a suit against Tsakos Energy Navigation Ltd. and others, alleging they paid kickbacks to a former company employee who agreed to steer more than $100 million in oil shipping contracts their way.

Houston Refining LP claims that former employee Jonathan Barnes ensured Tsakos and shipping broker Southport Maritime Inc. received $107 million in orders from the company to transport oil from Venezuela in exchange for a secret commission.
