Judge Won't Let Ex-BP Engineer Off Hook In Deepwater Case

Law360, New York (November 8, 2012, 9:42 PM EST) -- A Louisiana federal judge on Thursday refused to throw out an obstruction of justice count against former BP PLC engineer Kurt Mix, who in April became the first person to face criminal charges of intentionally destroying evidence related to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

U.S. District Judge Stanwood Duval made the ruling at a hearing in New Orleans, a U.S. Department of Justice representative confirmed.

Counsel for Mix could not be immediately reached for comment Thursday.
